Yesterday we went to Estes Park. Our goal was taffy. But unfortunately we had no cash with us and the taffy shop only takes cash or checks so we abandoned that idea and went in search of cheap sweatshirts. On our way up we went through Boulder, forgetting that it was CU's spring game day, we sat through way to many lights and several inquires and comments by Cooper: "why aren't we moving?", "you can go now", "are we in the mountains yet?", "where did the mountains go?". So, with many choice words for the city of Boulder, we finally made it through the city and continued our journey to Estes Park. Chris had a great time driving our new car and testing it out on the windy roads, until we hit a patch of fog. Actually fog really isn't the right word for what we were in. We were just in the clouds.
There were times that we couldn't see the car in front of us. Thankfully when we started our descent into Estes Park we came out of the clouds and were able to see again. Our first site as we came into town was of a herd of Elk. Not surprising to see at all in Estes Park anymore.
We headed to the shops and waited in line for our taffy only to realize we didn't have the correct means to pay for it. So we headed down the street on a quest for cheap sweatshirts. Within 30 minutes we had our sweatshirts and had happened upon Big Red of the Rockies. A little piece of heaven in the mountains as Chris would say. We saw a decent array of Husker memorabilia and Chris ended up with another Huskers tee shirt. All said it was a nice little trip into the mountains for the day. Although I am pretty sure we have confused Cooper even more as to what the mountains really are. Even as we were leaving town Cooper was asking, "When will we get to the mountains? Where are they?" I can't say I blame the kid for being confused. This is all that we could see of the mountains.
Not exactly proof of mountains.
With a quick photo of my boys we headed back home.
