It has been forever.....

I know, I haven't posted for 3 weeks. I am sorry. I have been busy. We had to move in to mom and dad's house while our floors got redone. TWICE!!! Yes, you read that correctly, TWICE. And yes, this is a new house we have only been here a year... So you ask, "What exactly did you do on your hardwood floors to have to have them refinished twice in a years time?" Well the story goes something like this:

They never did them correctly. We moved in last year knowing that they weren't finished correctly. So the warranty guy said at your 1 year review we will refinish them. Use them for a year (he took one look at the 2 dogs, at the time, and a 2 year old and thought they could use a year freebie on the floors) then we will come in at the end of the year and refinish them. YA!!!

Ya, until the week before and it set in that we had to move all the furniture out of the main level of the house. And that we couldn't walk on the floors for 24 hours... So we did what we always do. Run to mommy and daddy.

Actually, it was perfect, the world travelers had been home for about a month and had to get on the road again. So off they went and we moved in to mom and dad's house (we called it house sitting, and told them that we just wanted to make sure that the house was watched while they were gone this time).

So we were only suppose to be at mom and dad's for a week. The floor guys decided that instead of refinishing all that was needed was a screening on the floors and that would only take a day. We could move back in on Friday. Great!

Chris, Cooper and I loaded up two Saturday's ago and headed home. Only to find our floors covered in scratches. The whole floor! It appeared as though they had used a cheese grater on the floor before reapplying a new coat of finish.

So we headed back to mom and dad's. No problem (ok, not really no problem we were pretty upset, ok down right mad). Mom and dad were to be gone one more week, so Chis called the warranty guy on Monday and they went to the house to come up with a new game plan.

Wednesday last week they started in on the full refinishing of the floors. This was a 3 day event. And last Sunday we moved back home. (a day after mom and dad came home from there trip).

So go ahead and ask. "How do the floors look?"

OK, yes, just, ok. They are definitely better than any of the other times they were finished but there was a lot of grit in the finish so we have little bumps all over the floor. Not pretty, but at least they look like wood floors now. We can see the grain in the wood now, not the shellac finish that the 1st and 2nd company did.

So we give up. We will just settle with the grit. Some fights you just can't win. And this is one of them.

So my reason for not posting for so long, especially considering mom and dad have 2 computers and I took the laptop with me. I decided I was on vacation from the computer. I napped in the evening, I played Aurora Feint on my iPod, I watched TV, and I finished my quilt.

So I am sorry for not writing sooner. I was busy.
