Yesterday we returned home from a 9 day vacation. We went to Fremont, NE, Omaha, NE, Grand Island, NE and Smith Center, KS. It was a crazy trip and a day after returning home I still feel like we are moving. We left for Fremont, NE on May 16th. 9 hours later we arrived at Chris's brother and sister-in-law's house just in time to help with some yard work. It was the day before their oldest son's high school graduation and they were having a big party after the graduation ceremony. All went well despite the hurricane force winds. Monday was a day to catch up with everyone, take a swim at the hotel, feed some fish in the lake, and play for awhile at the park. Tuesday it was off to Omaha to go to the Henry Doorly Zoo. We love Omaha's zoo, it is definitely top notch. We got a deluxe tour from our friends, getting to go behind the exhibits and pet all kinds of animals. Wednesday it was off to see the botanic gardens in Omaha, not so much the gardens but the model railroad they have there. It was incredible, something definitely worth seeing if you happen to have a few hours in Omaha. Around noon it was time to hop in the car and head to Grand Island, NE to enjoy some time with Chris's mom. The wind was awful that day on I-80, I can honestly say I have never been so nervous about a road trip before but seeing the big trucks leaning at about a 5 to 10 degree angle was a bit much to take for 2 hours. Thursday morning we spent with Chris's mom before we hopped back in the car for another 2 hour drive. This time to Smith Center, KS. We had a full day going to Mankato, KS, for some play time in the park, lunch at Bob's Inn (I had a fresh, handmade double cheese burger and fries for less money then I spend on a grande vanilla latte at Starbucks), then out to the farm for Cooper to climb on some tractors. And a big dinner at Chris's sisters house with rest of Chris's family. Saturday was uneventful for Cooper and myself. By this time in the trip Cooper was slowly loosing momentum and ended up napping for 3 hours. I stayed at the house with Cooper while Chris headed back to Mankato with the rest of the family for Alumni Days. Sunday we hopped on the road to come home. Getting into Denver just as the sky opened and the rains started (it's crazy that we had no rain and warm weather our entire trip in Nebraska and Kansas only to come home to 60's and and everything wet). It was a great trip. I will post photos through out the week. So come back often (I also acquired an envelope full of old photos of Chris when he was a kid! I will post some of those too).
